Program Offerings

Dual Admission Program Between SJSU and Evergreen Valley Community College

The Nursing, Concurrent Enrollment Program (CEP) ADN to BSN (formerly Nursing, Integrated Community College Pathway, BS (ICCP) is a joint program between Evergreen Valley Community College (EVCC) and The Valley Foundation School of Nursing  in which students are concurrently enrolled in both. The CEP program allows students to complete an Associate Degree in Nursing, apply and sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Nurses (NCLEX-RN), and complete post licensure nursing content and upper general education courses to earn a BS Nursing.

The Nursing, Concurrent Enrollment Program (CEP) ADN to BSN is a joint program between Rural or Local Community Colleges and The Valley Foundation School of Nursing  in which students are concurrently enrolled in both. The CEP program allows students to complete an Associate Degree in Nursing, apply and sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Nurses (NCLEX-RN), and complete post licensure nursing content and upper division general education courses to earn a BS Nursing.

Special Session Information

Academic Programs offered through Special Session are operated by the Professional and Continuing Education (PaCE). Registration and enrollment in a Special Session must use the special session application form and will follow special session fees and course schedules. Note that regular session students seeking to enroll simultaneously in a special session course or the program will trigger a separate and additional set of fees.

The 5 semester Roadmap is available online. Roadmaps should be used in consultation with the catalog and your advisor to identify additional requirements for completing the major (for example, course grade minimums). 

Major-Specific Graduation Requirements

All courses required in the major require a grade of “C” or better or “Credit” (see admission impaction supplemental criteria for exceptions ). In addition, students must pass background and drug clearances. Policies are posted on The Valley Foundation School of Nursing website.

1. Complete the Baccalaureate Degree Requirements


Students must satisfy the specific degree requirements for their undergraduate major and fulfill the following University degree requirements: 

  1. Academic  (program total units with an average 2.0 GPA - “C” or better)

  2. General Education (GE)  (34 Lower Division + 9 Upper Division)

  3. American Institutions (AI)  (0-6 units) (may be satisfied in GE Areas 3B, 4, UD 3, UD 4)

  4. Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR)  (3 units)

  5. Physical Education (PE)  (0-2 units)

  6. Units in Residence  (30 units, including 24 upper division and 12 in major) 

  7. Upper Division Units  (40 units, including 12 upper div in major for BA, 18 upper div in major for BS)​

Exceptions for University Graduation Requirements including exemptions and waivers, are approved for specific majors and on a case-by-case evaluation only.

Summary of Degree Units


Transfer Units: 60 (Note: Applicants must have completed the 34 Core Lower Division GE Requirements. The Physical Education Requirement (2 units) is recommended to be completed before transferring from a community college or any university. All SJSU undergraduate students, regardless of major, have an opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills in physical activities. To accommodate students’ needs and interests, the university offers a diverse selection of activity courses.)

Upper Division GE: 3 (6 units may be satisfied by major coursework: UD Areas: 2/5, 4) 

Post Baccalaureate students would need to take an elective course to meet the on campus university coursework requirement.

Transferred from Evergreen Community College (EVCC) OR Rural Community College Associate Degree in Nursing Program.

External Exam Credit (20 units)


NCLEX - RN examination

Students admitted to the program will receive 20 units of credit for passage of the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for Registered Nurses.
